WHEN WAS THE SERRALVES FOUNDATION CREATED? The Serralves Foundation was created in 1989, by means of Decree-Law no. 240-A/89, of July 27. Serralves Villa and Park opened to the public on May 29, 1987. In pursuit of its statutory objectives, a contract was signed with the architect, Álvaro Siza, in March 1991, in order to draw up the architectural plans for the Museum.
CAN I TAKE MY PERSONAL COMPUTER TO THE READING ROOM? Yes. However, readers are not allowed to enter the Reading Room with: books, magazines, bags, folders, suitcases, packages, umbrellas or rain gear, photographic or scanning equipment; audio reproduction devices, foodstuff or drinks. All these objects must be deposited in the cloakroom located in the Museum’s Hall. It has not permitted to use communication devices, in particular mobile phones, in the Reading Room.
WHAT TYPE OF ARTICLES ARE SOLD IN SERRALVES SHOP? Exclusive Serralves products are sold (by artists and designers, from the Museum, Villa and Park); catalogues and publications; graphic works, posters and postcards; fashion accessories; interior decoration and household items (home decor, tableware, office, kitchen, silver decor, furniture and lighting); children’s products (children’s product line - Discovering Serralves); and also business gifts.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ACQUIRE REPRODUCTIONS OF THE ITEMS ON DISPLAYED IN THE EXHIBITIONS? No. It’s only possible to acquire merchandising constituted by items produced exclusively for the exhibition in question.
ARE SPECIAL DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR PRODUCTS ON OFFER IN SERRALVES SHOP? Yes. Friends of Serralves benefit from a 10% discount. Business gifts: in accordance with the quantity requested, price on consultation, subject to a separate budget estimate.

DOES THE SERRALVES FOUNDATION HIRE OUT ITS FACILITIES, FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES? The Serralves Foundation has a set of heritage buildings of great natural and architectural importance. The Serralves Foundation is the ideal place for hosting a wide array of events, ranging from conferences in the Auditorium, product launches in the Museum, festivities and dinners in the Villa, and fashion parades in the Park. CAN I PHOTOCOPY DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE IN THE SERRALVES LIBRARY? The Serralves Foundation’s Library enables black-and-white photocopies to be made, and a self-service photocopying machine is available for this purpose.
WHEN IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE GUIDED VISITS? Guided visits are held as follows: To the exhibitions - every Saturday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and every Sunday from 12 noon to 1 p.m., To the architectural spaces - every Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; To the Park - every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Anyone interested in arranging an (individual or group) guided visit may contact the Serralves Foundation’s Educational Service. Such visits are subject to prior booking and a specific fee. For school trips, access is free of charge but subject to prior booking.
WHEN WAS THE SERRALVES MUSEUM INAUGURATED? The first stone of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art was laid on November 27, 1996. On June 6, 1999 the museum was inaugurated, with the "Circa 1968” exhibition.
